Spiritual Goal Setting for 2021

How to Set Up an Action Plan to Achieve our Spiritual Goals in 2021

Only 22 days before the year 2021 begins !!! Therefor we continue with our action plan to reach our spiritual goals for 2021! As Christians we all have spiritual goals. We know and have very present in our hearts and our minds that we want to live a spiritual life that pleases God. Every time a service ends and we hear a preaching or a message; The Holy Spirit inspires us to lead a better spiritual life whether in our prayer life, in regards to the word, fasting, or in our daily lives. We all long for a stronger and better intimate relationship with God. But when we leave the service or that moment where God has ministered and spoken to us; we do nothing… because we forget.

Which is why when we plan and set goals for the coming year; we must include an actionable work plan that helps us achieve our spiritual goals. If we do not write those things that God is guiding us to do either in the secret place, or in public through a message to the congregation, there will be no compromise behind the intention.

When we begin to plan, one thing we can do is ask for advice. Ask others who are already living or operating at the level we long to live, what they do or have done that has worked for them.

On the download that was provided to you in last week’s article How to prepare a plan of action for 2021; we wrote down 5 goals in each area of our life. Now we have to create an action plan to implement these goals effectively in our lives by answering the following questions: How will I do it? When will I do it? and Where will I do it?

Let’s say that the 5 spiritual goals that you have chosen for the year 2021 are:

  1. Pray more… Well, although that is a great goal to say that we want to pray more lacks structure and a measure to know if we are achieving the goal or not. Therefor we must be specific. For example you can say, I will pray 3 times a day; upon waking up, at lunch, and before going to bed. Or one can say I want to pray more and be more consistent in my prayer life for which I commit pray for 1 hour every day at 5am in my war room (my secret place of prayer).
  2. Read the Bible in a year … Although it is an admirable goal, it lacks some details. You need to ask yourself; What Bible will I use for my study time? If I don’t have one, I should buy one. How long will it take me daily to achieve i?, Etc. We will say; I want to read the bible in a year; To achieve this I am going to use the Bible A Woman After God’s Heart; I will set aside 15 minutes each day (That is generally what it takes every day) at 6am and do the daily devotional provided in it. In case of not being able to do it in the morning I will do it at 10pm before going to bed. Having a contingency plan in case things don’t go as expected will help us to be more effective and be successful in our goal.
  3. Fast consistently … Fasting not only helps us in the spiritual realm, but is also beneficial in maintaining a healthy body. To achieve this goal it will be necessary to analyze our daily life and which days will be the most effective for us to fast. In biblical times there were specific days when people fasted. Therefore it would be good if we choose a day or two a week that we can dedicate to God in fasting or prayer. I can say I will fast every week on Thursday at my house.
  4. Reach more souls for Christ. This goal is very beautiful, but it is also very broad, so we must be more specific about it as well. We can say In this next year I want to win 2 souls for Christ. How will I do it? I must first share the gospel with the people around me. If we don’t talk about Christ, we won’t be able to share our faith. We should bear witness, have love, and be persistent. Our testimony can do much more than our words. I can say I will share my faith with two people every week wherever I am. Once the person has accepted Christ as his savior, we must not abandon him, we must follow up so that he remains.
  5. Be more consistent in my church attendance. Depending on your congregation it may already be open giving regular services during the pandemic or it may still be closed for some reason or another. But this is an excellent goal to have; do everything possible to reach all services. Taking into account that perhaps you have an attendance problem, you can say “I will arrive at all services on Friday and Sunday 15 minutes before the service begins; and I will do my best to participate in at least two activities or events extraordinary per month. “

We could use many other goals such as developing some gift or talent for God; try to see healings and miracles; serve as a volunteer in some department for the work of God; evangelize more often; support a mission or ministry. Whatever your goal in the spiritual realm, remember in your work plan to answer How will I do it? When will I do it? and Where will I do it? If you answer yourself those questions you will be better positioned to achieve those goals.
