True Humility Discarding Arrogance

As women (and men) of God we know that we have to be humble; it’s more; it is a requirement for an approach to the presence of God. But what does it mean to be humble? What is true humility? Humility is a virtue that manifests itself in some men and women of God. It is not a sense of inferiority and it is not living in misery although its literal meaning is sometimes applied to poverty. The definition of humility is: the condition of the person who acts without pride, without boasting of his merits and acknowledging his defects or mistakes. Recognition of the person’s own limitation. Living in poverty or in scarce resources. Humility is the opposite of pride, boasting, or haughtiness.

When we are truly humble, that humility allows us to have an adequate concept of ourselves in relation to God and men. We can recognize the virtues of others (who are better than us in some area) and we recognize that although we have virtues that outdo others, that Glory belongs to God!

“I say, therefore, by the grace that is given to me, to each one that is among you, that you do not have a higher concept of yourself than you should have, but think of yourself with sanity, according to the measure of faith that God distributed each one. ” Romans 12: 3

There is a blessing for the person who comes off his achievements and knowledge to recognize that if there is any virtue (or greatness) in him or her, it really comes from God.

“If my people, upon whom my name is invoked, humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive your sins, and heal your land. ”2 Chronicles 7:14

“For Jehovah is content in his people; He will beautify the humble with salvation. ”Psalms 149: 4

On the contrary, it is of the utmost importance to understand that pride, haughtiness, and arrogance separate us from the presence of God and makes us undesirable; because we think we are better than them.

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace; But with the humble is wisdom. ” Proverbs 11: 2

“Before destruction is pride, and before the fall the haughtiness of spirit.” Proverbs 16:18

“Unanimous among you; not haughty, but associating with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.” Romans 12:16

Let us be humble; recognizing that all virtue, our talents, and our merits; if there is any virtue or glory; belongs to God. He is the big one! Glory is and always will be from God!
